So, it feels really weird to be done. I’m on official leave of absence to find a job, and I’m looking but not seen anything I can tell God is telling me to go for. I won’t rush it because I have time. I still get up with DH and pack his lunch. Then I usually piddle a little, and go to BAM when they open to have a cup of coffee and read for about an hour. Usually see my friend H there and chat a bit. Head home, and unpack/clean the house some. I’m hoping to get a bigger dent in the kitchen today. Bathroom is done and bedroom mostly done except for clothes that need washing. I will probably finish my step-dad’s vest and get it ready to mail and then knit for a bit until DH gets home. Then it will be supper time. I need a shower though and a friend may be popping over. . . . or a couple of friends. I do have pics to post, so I may get those put up tonight if DH goes to help mix their new CD. And that is about all.
News . . . and blues 04.17.2008
Maybe I should take a drink before I say this. . . Nah, ok. So the news is, I found out on Tuesday that my company is doing away with my position. And I have until June 30 to find a new job. I am not worried, and I have peace and know God’s got me covered. But mentally I’m really just . . . stuck. I really thought I’d be where I am until I have a kid, and by then, because we planned, I would have been slowly easing out of the workforce, and we would have our finances situated to the point of allowing me to be a SAHM. Of course, I can go somewhere else and see this happen pretty much in that order. But its still strange. I’ve seen several jobs. Nothing really thrilling and I’m really just not sure which direction to take. Oh well
Newness . . . 04.14.2008
Well, waking up in the new house was a little disorienting. First of all, I wondered where in the world I was. Second, it is so quiet, we have to have some form of noise just to go to sleep. This should adjust and go away but for the time being, it’s a little unnerving. You can hear the silence. Thirdly, I am feeling better but yesterday was very overwhelmed. I think I can get it all unpacked and reorganized now though.
In honor of newness, and being disoriented, I’ve created a survey. Link is to the right at the top of my sidebar. This is to give me a better idea of what kinds of patterns to write and what to plan on. Please take the time to fill it out. I’ll leave this up for one month and then go from there. Hopefully this will also give me time to get my craft room situated.
Happy ASPCA Day everyone! 04.10.2008
So, I didn’t get to wear orange today, since I don’t own any orange that I can wear for the “nicer business casual day” that they have declared for the big wigs that are visiting (the only orange shirt I have is from blowout and says in japanese “I want to drink sake”, not really appropriate and yes there is someone here who can read it). So in honor of this: All text for today will be orange. OK, I know, not as cool but hey, its the best I can do. So, I’m feeling tired today. Definitely having knit withdrawals. As we were warming up for worship last night, I stood with my knitting to get some in, almost finished another lovely gauge swatch. I feel such an urge to knit/crochet, that I may have an overload soon and shut down, simply from the creative pressure building up. It’s crazy! Also, please be praying. We have to be moved out in 3 days, and we have one room of 6 mostly moved. I’ll be packing tonight which will give me a needed break in terms of the house. But its still packing. yuck!
Finally, I leave you with a funny animal video and a video from Cat Bordhi who is not only crazy but completely a genius when it comes to knitting.
I give up! 04.9.2008
So, last night I get home from work, and find out we’re having Hamburger Helper. In my house, I can’t stand DH’s fav HH and he can’t stand mine so we just make our own favorite and have lots of leftovers. It works. But of course, since mine does not involve just meat cheese and carbs, but actually has onion and non-french-fry potatoes in it, I have to make it myself. That’s fine. I eat and read on my new book, Shopaholic takes Manhatten, and he shoots people on R6 Vegas 2. Then he starts loading the car, and off we go to work on the house some more. Needless to say, we have less than a week to be fully moved. My job is to fight with the hot water heater . . . again.
And at this point I give up. I am mechanically inclined when it comes to tools and pipes and wiring. I’ve replaced outlets and helped both grandfathers remodel and build. So I think I can stop a leak. Basically the setup is on the output of the hot water heater in galvanized piping, is a bell reducer to what is apparently a nipple to a union. It was leaking out of the bottom of the bell reducer. My idea last night was to get a nipple, read short bit of pipe, that was about half an inch longer. But I couldn’t get the bell reducer pipe setup to unscrew enough to come off the hot water heater. But I did get it unscrewed pretty far, so I put some teflon tape on the sucker and tightened it all up. So far so good. Turned on the water. No leaks. I’m doing a happy dance. Of course the true test is the combination of water pressure in the pipes plus heat from the hot water heater, so I turn on the hot water heater and wait. No leaks. Decide to go finish painting and check back later. The crucial problem has been that turning the bell reducer also turns the short bit of pipe, causing it to unscrew from the union. Well, by the end of last night, the tiniest bit of water was sliding out of the bottom of the union. I decide to unscrew the bell reducer just a fraction. A smidgeon. No luck, the bell reducer starts to leak. So at this point, the hot water heater came, it saw, it conquered. It should be fine, but to be honest, in my rage, I decided to caulk the thing.
Its enough to pull your hair out.
Dogs rock! 04.7.2008
And most people know this. ASPCA has a day to raise awareness for those dogs, and pets in general, who are suffering under animal cruelty from owners. Especially for those of you who knit/crochet, LapDogCreations is sponsoring a contest on her blog for ASPCA Day. Please go check it out. You could win some awesome prizes and in the process help some great pets have a better life! Click here for more details.
I would be especially interested in a K/CAL for some Snuggles to donate. It could be a great stashbuster. Anyone interested leave a comment, but also go over to her post and check it out.
So I like quizzes 04.4.2008
So, actually this is the only Austen movie I like and I haven’t actually read any of the books. Pride and Prejudice almost did me in.
Interesting 04.3.2008
Well, my knitting has been on hold for a couple of days, so I’m going to be knitting on my lunch break. Since it’s not fair that I don’t get to knit! Especially if DH still gets to play Airsoft. Anyway, the house is more lovely every day, even with the work we have to deal with. Never thought I’d own my own home at this age. And its nice because every time we are at the new house, the contrast to where we have lived for the past two years is huge. I do have some pictures, but I don’t have them uploaded yet. I’ll try to post those at some point, but of course its going to be crazy busy.
The really exciting things:
- It came with a free pool table, complete with balls and cue sticks, that the previous owners did not want
- It is already setup with high speed fiber optic internet so I will be cruising in the fast lane finally, wirelessly, and will be able to put up lots more pictures
- The sheer size is mind-boggling for me
- The kitchen is actually usable
- The view of the city at night is gorgeous, and yes I will try to get a picture of that as well
On the business front, I found a free blog service that comes complete with a store and is integrated with Paypal, so hopefully soon, I will be posting the link and will be going live, even though I have nothing to sell as of yet.
