OK, folks. The unveiling of my new pattern. Or the results thereof. It’s a Retro Fulled Cloche.
First , a picture that my crazy camera did not allow to turn out well.

And here is a better picture, showing the cables in the top of the hat. This is after my experimentation with the camera.

Please let me know what you think.  I will also be uploading a PDF of an illusion knit chart for a bat.  Should have that up soon.

I’m sure this blog is.  What a crazy week.  I know for a fact that I’m praying I survive through tomorrow, but there is a light at the end of that tunnel.  And I don’t think it’s a freight train.  (Can you guess the music reference there?)  Anywho, I’ve been knitting when I can.  Hubby had recording with the band he’s in on Saturday and they are all thrilled with how it sounds.  Hopefully, that album will be released in June.  I will let everyone know when I know more.  The other big news is that we close on Monday on the house.  I will take plenty of pictures then, as I also have pictures of the hat I’ve designed.  Finally.  Sorry for the delay.  This blog should hopefully get picture-y fantastic once we move as we plan to get high speed internet there.  Yay for that!  So that is pretty much all.  That and if anyone knows of a magic genie that will pack and move everything for you and then unpack it all where its supposed to go, please let me know!

Monday Musing 03.17.2008

OK, I really need to plan to do this during my lunch break rather than 15 min before I go home. The reason being that internet access at work is much quicker and more readily available than at home right now. BTW, Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone! Anyways, on to . . . *drum roll*

SakuraMonday Musing! And the musing of this past week as probably been the approach of spring, and the lovely sakura cherry trees which are blossoming outside where I work. The Japanese love the blossoms of the cherry trees so much, they have a festival to celebrate when they bloom. And I find that the cherry blossom pink is possibly the only shade of pink which I can not only stand, but enjoy and think beautiful. It’s so nice to see them bloom. To know that spring has to be close, the re-awakening of flowers and warmer temperatures. The urge to knit lacy things (no, not racey things). So I guess its a musing on what seems to be a re-birth, an evidence of life and the continuity of life. This is an especially interesting musing considering that this is Holy Week and we are approaching Easter, the celebration of God-life. A kind of life that death cannot hold or strangle or put out. And the fact that we can have that same kind of life in our everyday happenings. That God sent Jesus to die to give us that life. Its just amazing. To walk in that life and fully know what it really means to live. And understand that even when we outwardly seem to have been buried in winter’s snows, that the sakura will bloom again and spring is coming. Hope.

OK. So photos. First, to catch up, here is my photos of the snow a week ago.

Work in the snow

And this photo below demonstrates how roads can get when it snows.  It may be beautiful but I would enjoy it more if I could stay home and not drive in it.

Roads in Tennessee

This is a main road in Bristol, Tennessee, off what is the Main St, State St.  So no matter how hard those snow plows work, the roads can still be a mess.  But unlike school, jobs don’t take a day off for snow.

OK, since I don’t have much time, I’ll try to be brief, but my musing over the past week has really been about trust.  Or the lack thereof.  We went to make an offer on a house yesterday.  And the “offer” (read legal contract) is a little ridiculous.  Probably about 15 pages to say, we would like to buy your house.  I understand that both sides need to not get swindled.  That makes complete sense, but we have grown, as a society, so mistrustful of people around us that we have to cover every possible area someone might get us from.  Every possible contingency and both parties have to sign.  If nothing else, the huge number of lawyers in this country is a clear sign of mistrust.  After all, demand creates more supply and in this case, the demand to sue the crap out of our neighbors and total strangers for whatever reason, creates the supply of lawyers to fulfill this demand for suing.  Well, that is all I can fit in to the last 5 min of work.  Have a great Monday, and take a nap to catch up from Daylight Saving Time.

News Story

OK, some of you may already be aware of this, but I am outraged and completely bewildered by the recent ruling of the California Courts.  They have set precedence that homeschooling cannot be allowed in California, and that you must either send your children to public school or pay for private school.  Now, I know there are some good public school teachers out there, and several taught me.  However, I am one who wants to home school my children, when I have them, since not every single teacher out there will give my children a good education without indoctrinating them into something I do not want (read paganism, meditation, buddhism).
What really upsets me about this decision is the obvious obstruction of individual rights that this case represents.  Essentially the state of California has said that parents no longer are fit to decide what is the best way to educate their own children, and only the state can make proper judgments about this sort of thing.  For crying out loud, that is called COMMUNISM.  The Russians tried it.  Let’s see, the state of China did really well with education, when they ran students over with tanks.  OK, that was a little bit off to compare Tianamen Square with California’s decision, sorry.  Back on topic, you cannot take away individual rights, especially those in connection with the First Amendment.  I notice that the ACLU is not protesting such a violation.  The First Amendment gives people the right to worship freely, and I see it that they also have the right to protect their freedom of worship.  If a government establishment, like the school, prohibits freedom of worship, teaches things contrary to your beliefs, and possibly tries to encourage worship and beliefs other than your own, while at the same time condemning your expression of worship, then the parents should have the right to withdrawal their children from that establishment and look for a means of educating their children while also incorporating their expression of worship.
And of course you won’t see this in any of the major news agencies.  Only when the Left gets stepped on, does it become news-worthy.

OK, so I am close to finishing up my pattern template, and can have a second mockup of a hat done and will need test knitter volunteers to make sure someone else besides me can understand my directions.  You’ll get wool yarn of your choice (it’s felted) and a copy of the pattern.  You’ll need to have time to knit this, its a fairly simple pattern, within say, 1 month, and to email me your comments/pictures/problems so I can edit and change where necessary.  Leave me a comment if you’re interested, with your email, and I’ll contact you privately about it.  You will probably also get a goodie of some sort with the yarn.
PS – WordPress, this is a call for a volunteer, not marketing.  No money will exchange hands.  Thanks.

I have some pictures to post tonight.  Of the snow a few days ago, and my pair of Fetching modified which should be finished tomorrow!  Woo hoooo! And it is almost Friday, and not just any Friday!  Its one of our allowance paydays, so I get fantastic money tomorrow that I can spend.  Maybe get a knitting pattern book, a pair of shoes and maybe some more yarn.  We’ll see!
